Purpose:  Theatre Technologists

To assist the surgeons during a procedure, prepare and organize operating rooms, clean and sterilize equipment and maintain sterile environment.

Duties and Responsibilities for Theatre Technologists

• Setting up the instruments and equipment that is required for the procedure.
• -Sterilizing equipment and taking an inventory to ensure there are enough supplies for surgery.
• -Preparing sterile operating rooms for surgeries.
• -Taking a count of all surgical instruments and supplies prior to the operation.
• -Recounting surgical instruments and supplies at the end of the end of the operation
• -Preparing patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting incision sites.
• -Providing support during surgery by passing instruments and other supplies.
• -Staying up-to-date on surgical technology, medical terminology and procedures.
• -Working well with surgeons, Fellows, Resident surgeons, Perioperative Nurses and general surgical team.
• -Helping provide great patient care
• -Assist surgical team by taking tissue samples and other specimens during surgery for further analysis.
• -Maintaining an overall environment throughout the surgery

OTHER GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To ensure that there is teamwork in the unit.
2. Facilitate patient comfort
3. Facilitate communication with patients and relatives
4. Facilitate management of patient records recognizing rules of patients’ confidentiality and privacy
5. Facilitate the maintenance of department inventory and supplies as instructed.
6. Give Spiritual care.
7. Perform any other duty as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications for Theatre Technologists

• Certificate/Diploma in Perioperative technology course
• Minimum One-year experience
• Good computer skills and knowledge
