Job Description FOR Porters
A hospital porter is an assistant in a medical facility. They help with patient care by transporting patients and delivering equipment, messages, food or other materials doctors and patients may require. It’s common to assist any professional in the hospital, including nurses, doctors and medical staff, by performing errands.
Responsibilities FOR Porters
- Move patients in beds or wheelchairs between wards and Theatre department, including PACU.
- Assist in Moving furniture and medical equipment safely as requested
- Helping nurses lift a patient on to a trolley or into a wheelchair
- Taking samples to and bringing Formalin preservatives from lab respectively as requested
- Assist front desk staff with answering calls in a timely and polite manner and making any necessary transfers to the appropriate people.
- Clearly determine the purpose of the call.
- Work closely with the receptionist to ensure that one of them is available at all times at the reception desk in order to help control human traffic at the entrance.
- Safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Assist Team leader and other employees by running work-related errands such as moving stock and delivering items when necessary.
- Works cooperatively with and recognizes needs of other team members.
- To be a witness to visitors/patients and their family members and facilitate for spiritual help where there is need.
- Monitor security by monitoring people coming and going through the reception door.
- Be aware of and report suspicious activity.
- Keep reception area clean and neat.
- Arrives at work on time
- Uses time efficiently and constructively.
Qualifications & Experience for Porters
- Form 4 certificate with proven of ability to push or carry heavy loads.
