Endoscopist (Tenwek Hospital)
Endoscopist Summary:
The Endoscopist will be involved with reviewing patients with a wide variety of gastrointestinal diseases and will perform endoscopic procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Review patients in the endoscopy clinic who present with GI complaints who have been referred for endoscopy, and determine the appropriate studies required for each patient.
2. Perform a wide variety of endoscopic procedures:
Diagnostic upper GI endoscopyEsophageal dilationEsophageal stentingEsophageal chromoendoscopyEndoscopic mucosal resection (EMR)Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD)Esophageal variceal bandingTherapeutic endoscopy for upper GI bleedingEndoscopic ultrasound (EUS)ERCPDiagnostic lower endoscopyEndoscopic colonic polypectomy
3. Develop treatment and follow-up plans for patients presenting to the endoscopy clinic.
4. Take an active role in a variety of clinical research studies.
5. Teach the endoscopy fellows-in-training, both in didactic settings and procedures.
6. Collaborate with other health care providers to achieve wholistic patient care.
7. Perform any other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgical Services or his/her designate, depending on the need and urgency.
8. Promote effective interpersonal and public relations with team.
9. Display Christ-like attitude and character both on- and off-duty.
10. Abide by the Tenwek Hospital moral code and Kenya Medical and Dental Council regulations.
11. Maintain familiarity with the legal implications of clinical practice and ensure that legal requirements are met.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED FROM:
• Director of Cardiothoracic Surgical Services or his/her designate (Primary Supervisor)
SUPERVISION GIVEN TO:
• Cardiothoracic and Endoscopy fellows, nurses and other health care workers assigned to the endoscopy unit.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Committed Christian
2. Bachelor of Medicine or MD from a recognized institution
3. Master of Medicine or equivalent in Surgery or Medicine from a recognized institution
4. Completion of specialized endoscopic training
5. Valid medical license and registration with the Kenya Medical and Dental Council
6. One year of relevant work experience in a busy endoscopy institution
7. Other Skills Required

8. If not qualified in all procedures listed above, Tenwek Hospital will arrange further training in these areas at the discretion of the Management Team
