Morgue Attendant Purpose:
Morgue attendant responsibilities include providing comfort to relatives of deceased, assisting with the transportation of the deceased to the funeral home and preparing the body before the funeral or other religious events. Ultimately, work with deceased bodies to oversee the preparation, dressing and embalming of deceased people before they are placed in a casket for funeral arrangements.
1. Receive bodies from outside and guide them to register and communicate to diagnostic and ancillary manager for guidance.
2. Collect and clean the deceased bodies from various wards in the hospital
3. Correctly label the bodies with all the identification information
4. Ensure the bodies are well preserved and kept in good conditions
5. Embalm, dress, cosmetically enhance and casket deceased people
6. Obtain documents and permits related to embalming and funerals from various sources
7. Refer clients to reputable grief counselors
8. Ensure cleanliness of equipment and preparation room
9. Communicate with the bereaved families well and give proper guidance on the hospital processes of admission and discharge.
10. Give report to the Diagnostics and Ancillary manager on postmortem requests for proper planning.
11. Give daily report on the occurrences to diagnostic and ancillary manager.
12. Assist pathologist during post mortem.
13. Should not interfere with evidence as required of medical legal but preserve the bodies in the fridge without washing or removing anything.
14. Offer comfort to the bereaved and maintain high degree of confidentiality.
