Deputy Lab Manager Purpose
To assist Laboratory Manager in overseeing and providing day to day supervision of Laboratory functions so as to provide timely and quality service.
Responsibilities for Deputy Lab Manager
1. Order supplies from Central supplies and other sub stores and ensure that the lab store clerk work is supported,
2. Ensure that there is professionalism and discipline among the lab team and give report to the lab manager
3. Responsible for morning reports, general staff meetings and ensure relevant documentation done.
4. Ensure solutions, stains, media and reagents necessary for Laboratory tests are prepared
5. Ensure all the laboratory results are Verified and authorized at all times.
6. Ensure that the critical and urgent results are reported to clinicians and Ward in-charges and documented at all times.
7. Monitor ward collection and give daily report to the laboratory Manager.
8. Provide Technical support to laboratory staff and give relevant guidance.
9. Ensure there is proper shift coverage in all laboratory sections at all times
10. In collaboration with the lab manager, ensure that the outstations are well functioning
11. Represent Laboratory in various hospital committees when the lab manager is not available.
12. Supervise and guide new staff and students assigned laboratory department.
13. Manage Laboratory stock inventory and establish minimum maximum levels.
14. To supervise Laboratory in absence or in consultation with the Lab manager.
15. Coordinate with the Lab QA Officer to ensure all equipment are well serviced and functioning well.
16. Ensure that the lab quality objectives are achieved by getting monthly reports from assigned laboratory staffs
17. Respond to customer care concerns timely and give feedback to the lab manager as soon as possible
18. Work hand in hand with the lab manager to ensure that each lab staff achieve their set objectives
19. Perform any other duties as assigned by the laboratory Manager.
- HND and above in Medical lab,
- supervisory skills,
- 5 years experience,
- ISO 15189:2022 Implementation,
- ISO 15189:2022 internal audit,
- registration with KMLTTB with valid licences
