Responsibilities for Oral Health Officer
- Asses dental conditions and need of patients using defined dental patient screening and monitoring procedures
- Analyse x-rays and evaluate dental needs as necessary including medical history review and dental charting
- Conduct, develop and mount radiographs as well as trace radiographs required for corrective treatment
- Undertake general treatment and care for teeth and tissue problems using specified equipment and tools and established oral health procedures
- Conduct full mouth scaling, polish and offer prophylaxis to remove plaque and stains to ensure that sterile conditions are maintained
- Fill-in cavities, rebuild broken teeth, replace missing teeth, and remove unnecessary or severely damaged teeth
- Treat and assist patients to prevent gum disease through the dental services
- Reduce simple fractures of the jaws
- Provide patient education on dental care
- Develop patients’ teeth impressions for study casts/models
- Document patient dental history and/or chief complaints and/or observations; including laboratory procedures and ensure follow up on results
- Perform dental processes to achieve local and international standards
- Manage and maintain dental department inventory; consumables, equipment and instruments. Maintain stock control procedures for the dental services to ensure accountability.
Minimum Qualifications for Oral Health Officer
- Diploma in Community Oral Health.
- Registered by the oral health association of Kenya(OHAK)
- Valid annual practice license
Experience
- 2 years’ experience in a similar role in a busy Hospital.
Technical skills/Leadership competencies
- BLS Certification
- Proficiency in computer application packages
- Wide knowledge of the health industry
- Proven leadership, communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills
